Top Chef alum and Washington D.C. restaurateur, Chef Spike Mendelsohn, is amped up about hosting Kraut Rocks, the month-long culinary experience that puts sauerkraut on center stage.
Because Spike and his numerous restaurants are a key part of D.C.’s contemporary food scene, he is ideally suited to host a culinary experience that shines the spotlight on the local food scene. Spike’s restaurants include three locations of Good Stuff Eatery: Capitol Hill, Crystal Lake, and soon to be opened Georgetown. Good Stuff Eatery showcases his own personal favorites – handcrafted burgers, handcut fries and handspun milkshakes in an environmentally friendly atmosphere. Spike’s other restaurant concept, We, The Pizza, serves pizzas and housemade old-fashioned sodas and is located next door to the Hill's Good Stuff Eatery. This fall, Spike will open Bernaise, a steak frites restaurant on the same block as the original Good Stuff and We, The Pizza.
Spike’s television debut was on Bravo’s hit television series Top Chef for their 4th season in Chicago. He also appeared on Bravo’s Top Chef All-Stars and the Food Network’s The Next Iron Chef: Super Chefs. Spike has appeared on numerous others shows including: The Today Show, Bar Rescue, and Extreme Chef. Additionally, Chef Spike will soon be starring in the upcoming Bravo series, Life After Top Chef, which is set to premier in the fall of 2012.
Spike is a graduate of the Culinary Institute Of America and has worked for culinary icons such as Gerard Boyer in Reims, France; Thomas Keller of The French Laundry and Bouchon Bistro in Napa Valley, California; Sirio Maccioni of Le Cirque and Drew Nieporent’s Mai House in New York City.
